The Zam-Buk Company was formed in the early 1900s by CE Fulford in Leeds, Yorkshire. The name suggests that it is African in origin, and although rarely heard today, it was used in Australia and New Zealand to describe the first-aid officers present on the rugby pitch who would administer healing antiseptic ointment to wounds and injuries. It quickly became available in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and was a household name for the majority of the 20th Century.

In the UK, Zam-Buk first appeared on chemist’s shelves in 1903. In a time before modern medication, Zam-Buk was an essential item for the home. By the middle of the last century the introduction of antibiotics saw the demise of Zam-Buk from many medicine cabinets, but it has always had its stalwart users which has seen it survive all these years.
Passed from one pharmaceutical company to another, Zam-Buk was discontinued in 1994 when the then owner, Fisons, was taken over by Fisher Scientific who had no room for such a small brand in their portfolio.
To the relief of the new brand-owners who were receiving daily enquiries from worried Zam-Buk devotees, the brand was taken on and revived by Rose & Co. as we recognised the need for this beloved ointment that has been a part of so many lives for so many years.

WHO WE ARE...
Rose & Co. was created by Patricia and Caroline Rose when they bought an old druggists shop in Yorkshire. With a love of all things vintage, beautiful and romantic, they restored the shop to its former Victorian splendour and a quirky but charming beauty apothecary was born.
Caroline uses the delicacy and elegance of the packaging in her vast collection of vintage cosmetics and perfume bottles as inspiration for her own range of bath and beauty preparations. She is surrounded by a fairy-tale world of beautiful objects both at work and at her home, which has been featured in the Sunday Times Style Magazine and Marie Claire.
The mother and daughter team have also worked with Channel 4 on The 1940s House series, The Victorian House, The Edwardian House and Treats From the Edwardian House with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.
