Opis

These tea temples house lovely little pearls of hand-rolled green tea tips which have been delicately infused with pure jasmine flowers. The leaves are just allowed to rest amongst the flowers to pick up their floral scent - jasmine tea doesn't get any purer than this. Once you cover with water,, the leaves will unfurl from the hand-rolled pearl to reveal a whole leaf and a bud - surprisingly hypnotic viewing we think! These particular pearls are often called "dragon phoenix pearls" – that’s because the tea bushes on the hillside  look like a dragon coming out of the water. Although I've seen these bushes climbing the hillside I've yet to see a dragon getting out of a bath, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of this claim, unfortunately!

how does it taste?

Very delicate green tea with a light, floral, refreshing, natural jasmine taste.

brew time

    • Boiling Water

    • Brew for 3+ minutes

  • One tea temple per person, infused with water at 80 degrees C. (If you don't have a fancy kettle or thermometer to hand, grabbing the kettle just before it boils will do the job!) .
  • Loose tea - 4 to 6 pearls per person. Infuse for 3+ minutes.

Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it

how we like it

Au naturel - glass teapot, jasmine pearls, add water and relax.

Iced

Just cover one tea temple with boiling water and infuse for 3 minutes. Remove temple and top-up glass with iced water.

our story

  • Nick

  • Louise

Nick and Louise started teapigs in November 2006. They met whilst working for a really big tea company, where they learned all about tea and drank lots of it. And the more they learned, and the more they drank, the more they came to realise something: that there's a whole world of quality teas out there that simply aren't getting the attention they deserve. And so teapigs was born.

Nick describes himself as a tea evangelist (although much nicer than those shouty ones on American TV). Louise, an experienced tea taster who has travelled the world tasting teas, is a self-confessed tea addict (not seeking rehab).

Together they founded teapigs and, since 2006, the teapigs team has grown a little. As well as Nick and Louise, there are now Nicole, Sofia, Reggie, Hannah, Hayley, Becky, Amy, James, Valerie, Tori, Sharon, Jordan and Harvey the dog.

we believe in something pure and simple - no airs. no graces. just fine tea.

  • We will only ever sell teas of the highest quality. We will never compromise on quality. It also means we sell only whole leaf tea from selected estates, which we supply either as loose leaf or in tea temples.
  • We love tea; we just don't like the snobbery that can come with it. Instead we concentrate on bringing you the very best tea we can find and not taking ourselves too seriously.
  • We don't want to intimidate you with a huge list of teas or bewilder you with a mass of information (although, of course, you can always ask us). We've handpicked a select range that offers you the chance to discover the wonderfully diverse world of tea.

whole leaf tea

whole leaves

At teapigs, we make a big thing about using quality real tea. By quality real tea, we mean whole leaf tea, whole leaf herbs and whole flowers.

It's all about the flavour. The tea in regular tea bags has been squashed, chopped and manhandled so, by the time it reaches your cup, almost all the flavour is lost. We don't think that's very nice. The whole leaves, herbs and flowers in our tea temples have been handled gently and with love, to maintain every drop of that precious flavour.

Louise, our tea taster, has spent over a decade slurping tea - some lovely, some not so lovely. Her job is to make sure that teapigs whole leaf teas are always the very best.

our tea temple

Tea temple

The teabag was an inspired idea; convenient, clean, simple to use and, in our opinion, one of the greatest inventions before, and since, sliced bread.

But we know that whole leaf tea just doesn't work in regular paper teabags. This bothers us, as whole leaf tea gives you a far better cuppa.

We're also pragmatic, knowing full well that not everyone has the time to make tea the ‘proper' way, what with all that pot warming, deciding who will be mother, etc. So we went looking for an alternative; something that would give us all the convenience of a teabag but with all the taste of real whole leaf tea.

And so the tea temple was born – a roomy, biodegradable mesh bag, which offers all the space whole leaves need to infuse properly.

We love our tea temple, but it's essentially the tea inside which makes all the difference. We know it's easy to fall for the charms of a fancy looking tea bag but, without the greatest quality whole leaf tea inside, it just isn't the full package.

our green credentials in a nutshell…

rainforest alliance

Rainforest Alliance

The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour.

Rainforest Alliance video still

We are working with the tea estates from which we source, to put the little green frog on every pack we sell. At the moment our english breakfast (everyday brew) blend has Rainforest Alliance certification.

Here is a little more about the work and objectives of the Rainforest Alliance and a nice little video which sums up the work they do.

green packaging

  • Japanese Bioplastics Association

Our tea temples are made from biodegradable corn starch. The material was developed in Japan and has the green "pla" mark which is an endorsement by the Japanese bioplastics association.

  • FSC Logo

Our packaging is fully recyclable, and the cardboard used to make the packaging is FSC certified. FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) is a organisation which promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the worlds forests.

  • Vegetable-Based Inks

And not only do we print on sustainable board, but this one last flashy logo tells you that the ink we use to make our packs pretty is vegetable-based.
